Obsidian Reign is a grim industrial-punk world where science has gone too far without computers. It is a world of hulking machinery and clockwork beasts driven by combustion engines and controlled by people. But deep beneath the oil and iron runs a current of magic where ley lines enable super-luminal communication and smokeless propulsion. Deeper and more secret still is the society of titans, sworn to protect humanity from the monsters that corrupt the ley lines and use them to threaten the world of Obsidian Reign.

Your character is a normal teenager with a normal life, a normal school, and normal friends. On one slightly abnormal day you stayed after school to help with a pet adoption drive. A bucket of kittens always makes homework feels less important. During the evening one kitten kept crawling up to your shoulder to settle down. At the end of the event you asked if you could keep the kitten and a soft voice whispered in your ear, "yes." Then your world turned upside down.

This was the day you learned that the world you live in isn't all smoke and steel. There is a secret society of cats, the Sapphires, that fight to protect the world from demonic creatures. By bonding a Sapphire cat you have gained the power to become a titan, a magical creature powerful enough to defeat monsters from another dimension. Ten out of ten, would adopt again.

Character Creation

Your character has two forms. A normal human form with a class schedule and homework, and a titan form with the power to protect humanity.

First create your human character using the standard rules for a novice character with the minor hinderance Youth (4 attribute points, 10 skill points, +1 benny). This does not count toward your hinderances and you don't receive any benefit from Human ancestry. Your equipment will depend on your wealth edges, if any. You may not take any arcane backgrounds or traits that will make it too difficult to cooperate with other people.

Next, create your titan form. Most titans look like large humans with feline characteristics but they can be almost any shape and size. (Except that if they have any animal characteristics they are always feline.)

All titan forms have the following traits

  • +2 Toughness
  • +2 Recover from shaken
  • Doesn't breath, eat, sleep, or age
  • Immune to mundane poison and disease
  • No extra damage from called shots
  • Ignore one point of wound penalties
  • Weakness to silver and moonlight
  • Cannot be healed with mundane methods
  • Cannot use Smarts-based skills. (But don't dump Smarts, you will need those human skills.)
  • Can not use mundane equipment and mundane weapons are "improvised".

And traits that affect both human and titan forms.

  • Transformation: 1 turn to switch from human to titan and visa versa.
  • Regeneration (2pt version); Titan and human forms share the same wound levels.
  • You are sworn to protect human life, fight evil, and encourage peace and cooperation. (This comes from your Sapphire bond, breaking this vow will break the bond.)

Additionally you have points to spend on making your titan form more powerful

  • 12 points to spend on Super Attributes, Super Edges, and Super Skills
  • 8 points to spend on attack and defense powers
  • 10 additional points that can be spent on any power, including those above.

All powers are limited by

  • Max 5 points per power.
  • No Device or Limitation modifiers.
  • No powers that make your turn take too long, such as additional actions or minions.
  • Powers always have a visible "trapping" that is easy to see.
