Session zero is where everybody works together to create a social contract and create a setting for the campaign. Discussions may be free-form, pass-the-spotlight, or around-the-table depending on what works best for the people and discussion.
During this process, each person should be thinking about the games they played before.
- What did you like about those games?
- What did you hate about those games?
- What kind of adventure do you want to play?
- What kind of character do you want to play?
## Social Contract
The social contract is an informal agreement among everybody at the table. It defines broad expectations and how to deal with disagreements. These are all suggestions and none of them need to be decided immediately; keep discussion open as the game evolves. In most cases, [[Core Rules#The Weaver]] can be used.
- Who will be the GM? How often will that role change? When does it change?
- How often will the game group meet? Where? Who will organize the meetings?
- What situations and concepts should be avoided?
- How does the group deal with cheating and abusive behavior?
- Who provides food and drinks? What kind of food and drinks?
- Which, if any, of the optional rules will be used?
### My Personal Rules
- Embrace adventure, be curious, take risks.
- Adventurers are a team. Be kind, supportive, and compassionate to each other.
- Cheating is not permitted. Monsters think cheaters are delicious.
- We are here for heroic adventure, not to indulge dark fantasies.
- Murder hobos, horny bards, lone-wolves, and sociopaths are not welcome at the table.
- This is not a video game, actions have consequences and there are no checkpoints.
- No phones at the table. If you need to use your phone, leave the table.
## Setting
Everybody works together to create a world where their adventurers and characters will exist.
- Does the game tell a story or do adventurers stumble upon encounters while exploring?
- How often will adventurers travel? Is traveling part of the story or something that just happens?
- What setting and theme do you want? What media and stories inspire the setting?
- How dangerous is the world? How easy is it for characters to die?
- What is magic? How does it work? What does it look like?
- How dangerous is Wyrd? How is it gained? Can it be cured? Is there a quest maximum?
- How crunchy is the game? Is everything narrative or do you want hard rules for currency etc.?
